1. Overview of CCTTF >>>Top

The Canadian Chinese Table Tennis Federation (CCTTF) is a non-profit organization officiated in the province of British Columbia as of September 2000. The founding of this organization was inspired by the vision that Canada is a country of multi-cultural heritage. Vancouver is an internationally recognized gateway to the Far East, thus the city has excellent potential to host the first Worldwide Chinese Table Tennis Open Tournament targeted for July 2001.

Although table tennis is not one of the current mainstream sporting event in North America, the recent twentieth Summer Olympic Games demonstrated without doubt that this sport is popular worldwide. However, excellence appears inadequate from Canadian athletes. Further promotion of this sport in Canada is warranted due to year-round accessibility, low maintenance cost to participants and health benefits. The mission of CCTTF is therefore:

· To promote the sport of table tennis, and contribute to Canada Table Tennis Association by assisting the development of future world-class Canadian athletes
· To promote friendship through linkage by table tennis with the rest of the world
· To educate the public regarding the health benefits of table tennis

CCTTF membership is opened to all parties or individuals who subscribe to the objectives of the Federation, contribute to its well being and are interested in participating in its activities.

 2. Objective & Goal >>>Top

CCTTF proposes to hold this international event in Vancouver B.C. because of its neutral political and multiculturalism climate, worldwide accessibility, excellent spectator sport and tourism facilities. With these elements, we anticipate excellent participation from world-class athletes and federation members. Once this event proves to be a success, our long-term goal is to entice other table tennis associations worldwide to carry on the tradition biannually.

3. Event Outline >>>Top

3.1 Date & Venue

The entire event will last approximately eight days; from July 22 to 29, 2001. After careful considerations of the seating capacity, profile and economics, the P.N.E. Coliseum is selected as the entire tournament site.

(Please refer to Appendix I for details of Tournament Program.)

3.2 Format of Competition

The actual tournament consists of two categories, public open and invitational.

Public qualifying rounds will take place over three days, followed by two days of final competition matches. Participants will be sex, age segregated. We anticipate that there will be four age categories for both male and female groups. In addition, to promote table tennis as a family and team sport, there will also be one family and two team categories. The top four players of each category will receive gold, silver and bronze medals and memorabilia.

For the invitational category, our technical working committee members headed by our Vice-President, Mr. Yong-Jiang Liu, will choose carefully selected top ranked players from around the globe. This category of the tournament will be held in the last two days of the competition. Top four players from the invitational category will be rewarded by handsome amount of cash prices as well.

7. Endorsement by Team Canada >>>Top

The concept of this international event was brought forward to Team Canada officials prior to the spring 2001 visit to China. Government officials from both countries received this initiative favorably and expressed their support by witnessing the signing of the MOU between CCTTF and CTTA in Beijing, and HKTTA in Hong Kong. Photographs taken during the signing ceremonies were included in both local press release and in Vancouver news media.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Of Canada, Honorable Jean Chretien has endorsed our event and have sent a congratulation letter in March, 2001.

8. Endorsement by B.C. Premier>>>Top

Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Q.C., the B.C. Premier, has written to CCTTF to show his support and encouragement in making this a successful event.

9. City of Vancouver Proclamation>>>Top

To support this event, Mr. Philip W. Owen, the Mayor of City of Vancouver, has kindly proclaimed the week of July 23 to 29 as the " International Chinese Table Tennis Week".

Furthermore, Mayor of Richmond City has also endorsed the event.

10. Overseas Promotion>>>Top

CCTTF President also visited Singapore and met with local table tennis dignitaries to promote the tournament successfully. Mr. Yin-Sheng Xu, Chairman of CTTA, and Mr. Tony Yue, Chairman of HKTTA have both committed to assist CCTTF in promoting this international event while their organizations attend the World Table Tennis Championship Games in Osaka in April 2001.

11. Local Promotion>>>Top

Advertisement, promotional materials will be prepared and distributed at major local educational institutes & secondary schools, community centers, sports & recreational clubs and etc. Further efforts of the same will be conducted across the country by other out of province directors and V.P.

12. Tournament Logo Design Competition >>>Top

To solidify the interest and expand the awareness of this event, we have decided to host a Tournament Logo Design Competition in April. Floata Seafood Restaurant has kindly consented to co-host this event by contributing the cash prize at Cdn$500.00 and a banquet for forty people to present the award.

Teenagers under 20 years old are welcome to participate in this competition. Deadline to submit the design will be April 18, 2001. The judging panel will include: Mr. Yuk-Man Lai, Mr. Yim Tse and Ms. Linda Hu, three very famous artists in Vancouver; as well as Dr. Kenneth Fung and Mr. Roger Tsui from our Steering Committee

13. Theme Song >>>Top

Mr. Joseph Koo, a well-known composer, has consented to compose a theme song for C.C.T.T.F., and this will be ready by May 2001.

14. ID Passport >>>Top

Another marketing concept was to issue some form of ID passport to Tournament registrants. This should qualify them for discounts at local secondary business sponsors throughout the second half of July 2001. With the anticipated number of visitors to Vancouver, this idea will also enhance tourism in Vancouver. Details should be available by the printing time of the preliminary program.

15. Sponsors >>>Top

The working committee members have been soliciting multiple businesses locally and internationally for their support in kind or in financial commitment. Due recognition of the various levels of sponsorship will be evident throughout the tournament and well publicized especially at the opening ceremony and closing gala banquet by various media coverage. Anticipated sponsorship include prize/equipment donation, entertainment at closing gala banquet, discounts at retail outlets, transportation, cash donation to the organization, etc. Efforts to solidify commitment are ongoing.

Up to now, we have retained some major commitment in sponsorship as below:

Shanghai Double Happiness Group Inc.
Shanghai Television Station
Chinese Entrepreneurs Society of Canada
Tri-Star Seafood Supply Ltd.
Stitches Creations Inc./ Fred Lee

Special Honorary Association

Chinese Entrepreneur Society of Canada
Richmond Chamber of Commerce

16. Audit Plan>>>Top

As with any official non-profit events, there will be formal auditing process in place to ensure legitimate and accurate revenue and expenditure transactions. Mr. Yik-Fung Au-Yeung, a well-established local certified accountant has kindly agreed to provide such service on a volunteer basis. Mr. Richard Lee and Mr. Wei Shao, both of these gentlemen are well-known local solicitors, have also kindly volunteered to be the legal advisors.

17. Closing Summary>>>Top

We hope you can share our vision of promoting table tennis as one of the mainstream sports in Canada. This international event will surely bring our beautiful city of Vancouver onto the world stage of Table Tennis. Participation by international players should also enhance our Canadian spirit of multiculturalism, with the hope that one day one of our Canadian youngsters could become a world champion in table tennis. With proactive training and guidance, this sport will also provide physical fitness, cultivated excellent mind-body co-ordination and perseverance.

Success at this international event will provide sustained momentum for future events. CCTTF again applaud our sponsors for enabling us to meet the second objective of the organization and that is to promote a close tie and friendship linkage with the rest of the world.

Finally, ex-Veteran world champion Mr. Yu-Xiang Li has composed a poem for CCTTF, commemorating this international event. Dr. Jan Walls, Director for International Communications, Simon Fraser University, has kindly translated the poem to share with everyone:

Four seas linked by a ball so white
Friendship blossoms in its light
Brothers and sisters share one goal
To build a future shining bright
